Middle Palisade

Middle Palisade (14012 ft / 4271 m) is located in the South Palisades area on the eastern boundary of the Kings Canyon National Park. The Northeast face is one of the classic class 3 climbs in the High Sierra. The top of the peak is a 10 ft wide fin over a thousand feet above the glacier below. The peak is most easily accessed via the Big Pine South Fork Trail.

Climbing the Northeast Face of Middle Palisade

The Northeast Face is the standard route for Middle Palisade. It is accessed from the South Fork Big Pine Creek Trail. From the south side of the glacier a ledge is found near the top of south side of the snow to where a ledge is found. Ice ax and crampons are needed on the glacier and the snow below it. Traverse the ledge into a class 3 chute. From there it is over a thousand feet of class 3 climbing up the chute to the summit.
