Norman Clyde Peak

Norman Clyde Peak (13,855 ft) is a difficult peak in the Palisades area. The easiest route up is fourth class. It is a spectacular piece of rock with the top shaped like a fin about 15 feet wide. It is most often climbed from via the North-Northeast Ridge. Access to this route is via the South Fork Big Pine Creek trailhead from Glacier Lodge out of the town of Big Pine.

The Palisades are reached by turning east on Crocker Street on Highway 395 at Big Pine.

Whitebark Pine at Finger Lake


Whitebark Pine at Finger Lake (El 10,800 ft). The whitebark pine can be identified by it's purple cones and bunches of five needles 1.5 to 2.25 inches long. It is the highest growing pine in most areas of the Sierra Nevada.
